Your Role in the Identification Process of AIG Students in Person County

General Process
Nomination:
A majority of the time students are referred by classroom teachers (yes, that's you!) and AIG facilitators. Nominations are welcome at any point throughout the school year in Person County. AIG facilitators and classroom teachers actively review sweep screen results in search of outliers when students are in third grade. Wondering who you should nominate? Check the Student Characteristics tab to think about any students who you have who may exhibit these characteristics. In addition, consider students whose performance level is notably more advanced than all other students in the grade level that you teach in relation to the six criteria listed below. Furthermore, as described in the Student Characteristics tab, a focused practice of our district is attention to poor classroom performance. In some cases poor classroom performance can be a sign of giftedness. Once nominated, these referrals are submitted with information from the screening stage and sent to the AIG Determination Team (ADT).

Six criteria are assessed when considering a student for receiving AIG services:
Decision and Next Steps:
The ADT will use the preceding criteria in order to make the final decision about what services the child will receive. There are three possible outcomes for the final decision:
Ongoing:
As the child's classroom teacher, you will complete an annual review of the student's AIG services. As a result of the annual review, a recommendation will be made by the ADT for further services the student should receive in the upcoming grade level.

- Student achievement-standardized testing
- Student performance-grades from current courses
- Academic aptitude- CogAT 7 or other aptitude test
- Teacher observation-rating scales completed in the referral packet stage
- Student interest- surveys completed in referral packet stage
- Student motivation- teacher completed survey
Decision and Next Steps:
The ADT will use the preceding criteria in order to make the final decision about what services the child will receive. There are three possible outcomes for the final decision:
- Criteria are not met and students do not go on to have a DEP; students can be evaluated at a future time.
- Criteria are not met and evidence suggests that benefit from nurturing services through cluster in math and/or reading.
- Criteria are met as a result of demonstrating "strong" or "very strong" evidence for most, if not all, of the established criteria. AIG determination team writes a differentiated education plan and considers what services will benefit the selected student.
